20 dogs and 24 people (both “old” walkers and several new people) turned out for a great walk. Nice to see some rescue dogs there looking very happy and cared for. As always on brilliant walks there was water, mud and those Labrador noses found some lovely dead “stuff”.

For people who think that their dogs are too ‘something’ [ busy, deaf, grumpy] to go on these walks do give it a try. The ten feet tall Lab lads that are bullet proof and try to let the world know that they are, are usually totally ignored; there are so many smells to investigate that no one takes any notice of them and they just fall into line — and we have never lost a dog yet.
Coffee at Pukeko’s Nest was a great finish to the day for those who could make it.
New walk in Maramarua forest Sun 7th Sep – Meet 9.45 for 10am start. See Flyer
Not suitable for dogs under 10 months but all members of the family welcome including non-labradors as long as they are sociable and under reasonable control.
Wear sensible shoes and appropriate clothes – we walk regardless of weather.
There are water holes which I’m sure the dogs will want to test out so it would pay to bring towels to dry them off afterwards. We will likely go for coffee afterwards.
From Auckland drive down State Highway 2, past the Maramarua golf course, along a straight stretch, over a bridge. Turn right into Kopuku Road, drive up a hill to a cross roads. Straight over this intersection to follow Kopuku Road for 6.4km. The next turn on your right is Symes Road which is unsealed. Drive to the end and that is where
we will meet.
